Shawn Hazen

Passionate about design, Shawn founded Hazen Creative to offer his unique perspective to a broad range of clients.

After graduating from the selective design program at the University of Washington, Shawn joined the international firm MetaDesign in San Francisco, where he was involved in diverse print and Web projects.

In 1998, he began what would be over 5 years in the editorial field. First, as designer for San Francisco publisher, Chronicle Books, where he worked on everything from photography books to cookbooks to pop culture books. Next, as Senior Designer for architecture and design magazine Dwell, which was just beginning. Shawn had the fantastic opportunity to help establish the magazine format—not to mention the corporate stationery, other printed pieces, and their Web sites.

At the end of 2003, Shawn became an Art Director for Apple Computer. He spent the next 2-1/2 years developing design solutions across all their brand channels—from retail environment and package design to collateral and interactive media.

He and his family left the Bay Area for Chicago, where Shawn signed-on with an agency called Remedy that specializes in branding for clients in the health space. As Remedy’s Design Director, he is responsible for shaping the agency’s overall design product—leading design strategy and implementation across the entire client portfolio.

Shawn’s work has been featured in Communication Arts, Print, How, and I.D. magazines. He has also received recognition from the National Magazine Awards, the Western Art Directors Club, the Ozzie Awards, the Society of Publication Designers, the Type Director’s Club, the One Show, and the American Center for Design. In addition, he has been featured in the following books: LogoLounge 3 and LogoLounge 4 (upcoming), Magazine Designs That Work, Powerful Page Design, Website Graphics Now, Cool Sites, and Graphis Web Design Now. He has also taught graphic design at the Miami Ad School in San Francisco.
